PROJECTS

Welcome to the Desert Amplifier Repair projects page. Over on the right side you’ll find our most recent Facebook posts. We’re always updating our Facebook page with cool things that come across the bench. It’s a great way to show off some of the unique items that find their way into the shop. As always, if you see any gear that belongs to you feel free to tag yourself.

Below you’ll find our most recent YouTube videos. Sometimes we’ll shoot a little video of what we’re working on to illustrate some of the services we provide at DAR…and sometimes we’ll go to YouTube just to show off some cool stuff. If you like what you see you can subscribe to our YouTube page to get notified every time we upload a new video.

At the bottom of the page you’ll find some archived photo essays of different projects we’ve done over the years, popular modifications, examples of some of the services we provide, etc… As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact us at any time.

Desert Amplifier Repair

Desert Amplifier Repair is happy to announce we have moved into the new location and are up and running!

In addition to quality amplifier and musical equipment service and repair, we also offer Fender-certified instrument setups and warranty service for a large selection of brands.

With the new location, DAR has also started carrying some of the most requested retail items. We are now a dealer of Ernie Ball, D’Addario, & S.I.T. strings with a number of other brands expected to be in stock soon. In addition to strings we also carry a large selection of vacuum tubes. All tubes are tested to weed out defects and ensure matching prior to sale, so you know any tubes purchased from DAR are good. As a dealer, we are proud to offer a 90-day warranty on most tubes, backed by the manufacturer. The best part is we price to compete with the corporate music store and fair online retail pricing.

We are happy to be able to provide our customers with a local alternative for quality products at affordable prices! Next time you need a pack of strings or spare tube, stop in to DAR! For more information check out our website at desertamplifierrepair.com or just swing by the new shop:

Effects Pedal Repair

Desert Amplifier Repair also offers service, restoration and modifications for most vintage and new production effects pedals.

Bias Mods

Changing the stock fixed bias, found in many amplifiers, to an adjustable fixed bias has several potential benefits.

Tube Matching and Grading

This project consisted of testing tubes for a client. The tubes came from Europe and were manufactured during the end of the Cold War. With the tubes being used in a cathode bias (self bias) amplifier, it was important to match the tubes as closely as possible.

Marshall JCM2000 DSL/TSL100 Bias Drift Issue

The early versions of the JCM2000 were prone to an issue that has been coined the “bias drift” issue. It’s been discussed at length on countless fan forums and since around mid-2004 the issue was resolved in manufacturing by Marshall.
